Another example would also be the one who builds his 150m2 with a low standard for €1,600 and the one who builds the 120m2 for €2,500, ultimately an individual decision about what is more important. The area limitation is not a suitable differentiation criterion.

New info: The Federal Ministry of Construction announced that it intends to advocate in the parliamentary process for an extension of the funding limit to 140 square meters for a family with up to two children. For each additional child, 15 square meters more should be possible, a spokeswoman for the ministry told the Evangelischer Pressedienst (epd).

I would find the option reasonable and completely sufficient.

It's only stupid for those whose family planning is not yet complete with the construction, apparently that happens. But that's probably how it is, hardly anyone has more than two children anyway and one child can manage on 140m2.

Is there already anything concrete to read anywhere about how the areas are calculated?

A fully basemented house is more expensive than a 15 sqm utility room and a kitchen with a 2 sqm pantry attached; the former has less living space and receives the subsidy, the latter more living space, no basement because it is too expensive and thus lower total cost, but does not receive a subsidy. Indirectly, basement construction is promoted with the sqm restriction, which, however, cannot be afforded by low-income earners.

No, unfortunately not, I also don't know if a single-family house with 139sqm completely without a terrace passes, if you simply build one on after the house is finished, but nothing about that is visible in the building application/application for child construction subsidy.

Maybe the option to turn the study (9sqm) into a laundry and drying room is the better one...
