There are enough academics who earn significantly less in the social sector

60 might be a bit tight. But with 70/80/90 annual income it’s doable. Just with a long loan term and cost-conscious planning. But possible!!!

These are academics. And the IG Metall collective agreement is the highest in Germany and we are talking about the highest tariff group there. As an employee, you can only earn more as a (non-tariff-bound) software developer or in middle management. 70k+ is also a great salary for academics.

Yes, these are academics. It was supposed to be an example of an average academic, and in my opinion, it is. At ERA12 B Lower Saxony, with a 10% performance bonus (which is contractually regulated as the average bonus), there is almost exactly 70k (13.25 monthly salaries). Above that, there is ERA 12C and the entire ERA13. Beyond that, there are also 40-hour weeks and shift allowances, AT contracts etc. For me, therefore, 70k is "normal" for an academic.

A chemical engineer with 8-9 years of professional experience earns 73,000 including all allowances but is not an entry-level employee. It always depends on where you build and also where you live.

To be honest, I would take the 70k immediately with only 35 hours. Of course, there are many positions where you earn a higher salary, but usually not with 35 hours.
At our company, the salary after 5 years is usually €76,800, but then 50+ hours are standard.

Back to the Baukindergeld, that is of course a nice thing that almost everyone would take advantage of, but I also see it that nobody would suddenly get the idea to build because of it.
