There are enough academics who earn significantly less in the social sector
Phew, luckily only high earners read here in the forum, otherwise you would probably have attracted a lot of bad thoughts by now
105,000€, that’s, let’s say, 2 well-paid academics, one earning 70 for full-time, one 35 for part-time.
I just googled and found figures: The median family income in Germany in 2017 was 40,704€ net. That’s maybe 60 gross for a family(?)
Anyone above that belongs to the top 50%. That’s not enough for building a house without inheritance etc.
70k is not a good salary for an academic. That is the normal IG Metall collective agreement wage for an engineer with 35 hours/week and average allowances.
These are academics. And the IGM tariff is the highest in Germany and we are talking about the highest tariff group there. As an employee, you can only earn more as a (non-tariff-bound) software developer or in middle management. 70k+ is also a great salary for academics.
