...if the numbers are correct!

The total budget is 10 billion.
As I have written before, everyone is just going in circles here.
You don’t really believe that at the end of last year it was said that the applications were within the expected range or slightly above and by the end of January half of the budget was exhausted.

Just do the math yourself. Each child means 12k. 10 billion divided by 12k gives roughly 830,000. Per application apparently 1.7 children (there have been different figures.) would mean around 490,000 applications. Even if you move the numbers one way or the other...half the budget with 64,000 applications is nonsense.
Or I totally misunderstood the system.

The 10 billion is not the set budget but the amount the opposition has calculated as how expensive it could actually become.

Therefore, the 2.4 billion is the budget and if no additional funds are provided, the program will end prematurely.

2.4 billion (or 2.7?) are, to my knowledge, included in the 2019 budget. I think you are mixing up a few figures...

Certainly not! 800 million were allocated for 2018. The 2.4 or 2.7 billion is the total budget until 2020.

I read that the budget for 2018 was 400 million.

However, applications were only submitted for 82,865 children in 2018.
That results in maximum expenditures of under 100 million.

PS: The article is from early December, so a few more applications will probably be added.

Do you have a specific source for that?

I only find the following information, for example, in the 2019 financial report of the Federal Ministry of Finance:

That means to me that the 1 billion euros in 2022 are intended to pay the Baukindergeld IN 2022. I further assume that from 2023 to 2027 the same amount must be planned to make the annual Baukindergeld payments. From 2028, it decreases again because the first applications have reached the 10-year limit.

And if the annual expenses are at max 1 billion euros (2022 - 2027), then 10 billion total over 10 years from fits pretty well.

(What other reason could there be that expenses are still planned in 2022?)

But I might be wrong. I have not dealt with it that intensively yet.
