Living close to the city is, in my opinion, significantly overrated.
I lived in Nürnberg Südstadt and commuted towards Bamberg. Anyone who lives there knows what that means. For the last 2 kilometers from the city boundary to the apartment, I usually needed 1 hour during rush hour. Mornings were okay because I started driving at half past five. Then there was usually an eternal search for a parking spot in front of the apartment or a parking ticket at night. Everything is hopelessly overcrowded there. No, my time is simply too precious for that. Driving to Ikea in the evening was then also about 25 km, and the parking lot was gone. And there, just like in the discount store or hardware store, everything was overcrowded. When I go to Aldi here, Saturday afternoon is empty.
I have now been living in a rural single-family house for many years. Quality of life is top. I would never move back to the city. And those who build expensively have to earn a lot. You end up stuck in the hamster wheel for 30 years or more. No, I have no desire for that either.
