I recently tried to use the Nokia 6310, which I was a pro at. I have to say, I've gotten too dumb for it! So much for progress humanity is being educated into stupidity

The fact is, if the analysis is correct and it comes to 350,- plus and the new one costs 499,-, then just new. Karsten

The heating element costs about €80. The spare part number BSHG00655855 is unusually expensive, as some kind of sensor is built in, usually these things cost < €20. The replacement can usually be done yourself with some DIY skills, although there are slight differences from model to model, just google the instructions.

I personally find this development somehow alarming. Sure, who needs products that last forever? But everyone talks about resources – how many are consumed, wasted when new goods have to be produced again and again? Of course, an old washing machine uses more electricity and more water. But is it really worth having to buy a new one every few years when the resources used in manufacturing are taken into account? I hardly believe that it adds up well in the end. Sure, before I spend several hundred euros on an "old" machine, I would rather buy a new one. But that's where the problem lies: repairs are usually expensive nowadays because, on the one hand, spare parts often have exorbitant prices or the parts are senselessly installed so that entire units have to be replaced, or the technician has to break his fingers just to get access in the first place.

The Chinese produce the stuff too cheaply and the expensive craftsman just wants the high German hourly wage. As long as there is this extreme income distribution, the problem cannot be solved.

If the washing machine were produced here and cost €3000 instead of €400, then the repair would also be worthwhile again. Alternatively, if it didn't take so long and wasn't completely idiotic, repairs in China would probably also be significantly cheaper. ;)

Phew, poor Katja. I think she’d rather buy a new one than wait several days for the replacement part and then install it herself after work.

I definitely wouldn’t want to put myself through that, but would look for a nice new Bosch again – maybe there’s one with a super extra feature that the old one didn’t have. So that the joy is greater than the frustration.
