You don't argue there, there's a clear deal. Whoever plays the paragraph enforcer against the neighbor has no skeletons in the closet. Otherwise, it could happen that the neighbor stumbles and while doing so, a site plan with the illegal construction ends up in the mailbox of the local building authority ;) Or you simply don't ask and just do it. I find the issue with the curb arch really interesting. You rarely see that.

The pavement at the neighbor's has not been damaged after 40 years. Maybe too many vehicles drive over there. I wouldn't paint the concrete. Gray is a clean contrast. If the shade is not exactly right, it looks terrible. Also, the paint might not hold, which immediately looks shabby.

What do you mean by sandstone color? There is no single sandstone color. Yours is yellow, ours is red.

I don’t want to see gray at my place, even though you are right about the “clean contrast.” Regarding concrete color, it comes in almost all RAL shades, which are said to last quite a while (whether that’s true, I don’t know yet). I am confident I will find a suitable shade. But as mentioned above, the curbstones might be overgrown, then it won’t bother me anymore. That’s exactly right, as I recently learned. :-) Now I also understand why the concrete industry often produces “sandstone-colored” with a reddish tone, which initially confused me. Reddish is the "Kyffhäuser sandstone," yellowish/sand-colored ;-) is the "Erzgebirge sandstone."

Attached is a photo of our green roof on the garage, even if it probably doesn’t count as a "garden." Apart from the green roof and the ivy next to the driveway, unfortunately, I don’t have anything else "garden-like" to offer. Soon I will have to crawl onto the green roof, fill the gaps, and remove the foreign plants. The green roof gives me a lot of joy, even if I only see it from the window. It’s already buzzing and humming from all the animals who appreciate it as well. My opposite neighbor can see it from his window too and is just as happy. The green roof was laid/planted around early July, with sprouts (so no seeds and no "fully grown" plants); for cost and time reasons. I can really recommend sprouts. In reality, the green roof of course looks better and today is a weather-related gloomy photo day.

Below is another photo of our future front yard. Since we are having a well drilled behind the house (the work was unfortunately postponed by our well master from the end of August to the end of September) and creating a (possibly swimming?) pond, I thought about installing a fountain or something similar in front of the house, specifically in front of the kitchen window. My parents had that, and it looked very nice. But my husband, probably because of all the work, is not yet convinced. We’ll see.

Here is a photo of our future garden behind the house. The field does not belong to it. At the back, we have about 350 sqm, which is currently still a stubble meadow.

Here in the Rhön, the sandstone is also red. A natural swimming pond is really great, but it requires a lot of space (which is not easy with my hillside location) and is too cold for me most of the time. However, it is always beautiful.

Green roofs somehow belong to the garden. You rarely see a great one. My husband doesn’t want one either - not yet. When the current garage roof eventually leaks, he will want it. That will still take a few long years.
