So, how are your gardens doing?
I pruned my roses over the weekend and also removed the perennial remains from last year. And mowed the lawn for the first time. Due to current circumstances, we are now spending considerably more time in the garden than usual, so I took care of that earlier this year. Last year, I had already decided not to mow a certain area around the plum tree, and I was amazed even then. Beautiful huge thistles, endless oregano. I mowed over it once in autumn, but now I have left it as it is again.
Our projects for this year are rather manageable: on the one hand, there will be 2 wildflower beds with perennial mixtures, totaling about 50m2. I still need to prepare everything and make the borders. But we will simply use red paving stones, just laid flat into the ground; that worked well with the other beds too. So no concreting or anything like that. Also, the shed is getting a new roof; we have already bought everything for it in wise anticipation. Double layer of OSB boards, then nailed roofing felt, and then bitumen waterproofing membrane covered with gravel.
The bumblebees or wild bees—I’m not quite sure—are already busy occupying their holes again. Everything survived the winter, including the plants and also the newly planted bare-root roses as well as my new climbing hydrangea on the shady wall. The rain barrels are already well filled thanks to the abundant rain. Oh, I love the garden; it's really developing well. It gets more beautiful every year. First, I had to clear up the chaos left by the previous owner, and now one area after another is developing, here an idea, there an improvement, here another climbing rose, there more beautiful perennials. Now the Easter decorations in the front garden, where the periwinkle and tulips and daffodils are blooming; the serviceberry and the cherry and the other fruit trees will be coming soon too. Things are going well.
