What is "usable" and what is not still lies in the eye of the beholder. If the lawn is supposed to serve a certain visual function and does so, it is "usable". We like to have a fairly large property and use only a small part of it as a garden. There is no lawn. We find that absolutely "usable".

Question about creeping thyme. I have been considering it for a while, but it is not recommended for our rather clayey soil. We only have a few square meters of "real" lawn left, otherwise more and more flowering meadow since the children have left home and the play area for football and trampoline is no longer necessary. For the remaining square meters, I would really find thyme beautiful and useful. Then you wouldn't have to mow anymore :-)
Should I give thyme a try or not? Are there any experiences that can help me with the decision?

It grows quite OK for us on clayey soil in the Bergisches Land - just give it a try.

I took a few garden pictures with the new camera that I am sharing here with you. Maybe there is an idea for someone. Here a bronze elephant (about 15 cm high) balances at a height of 2.5 m on a stainless steel rod and watches over the entrance. In the "wilderness" stands a heron on iron feet. The body is made of stone, the neck and head are made of frost-resistant ceramic.
