Isn't it good? Not? That's exactly what you want, a dense hedge within a few years. And birds and hedgehogs should also feel comfortable in it.

So I don’t know any bamboo hedges firsthand in Germany but the birds in Queensland Western Australia, at my father’s old house back then, found bamboo cool and always used it to tease the cat...

No, well for native wildlife we plant natives like bottlebrush, etc. in the West. Bamboo is not so popular in the West, we lack the rain for it. Too high maintenance.

Why were you shocked? That's a great hedge.

Here is another bamboo hedge, we bought the plants 3 years ago from classified ads for little money. It is now just under 2 m and is welcome to grow as tall as it likes.
