You can't keep wearing that all year round, though. It has to grow up sometimes.

We do with ours. It holds up and still grows.

I am just throwing in my incomprehension for lawns again. A rather maintenance-intensive chlorophyll desert without any value for nature. There are far better alternatives with less work. Which, of course, do not look as neat and tidy.
Of course, this is all just my personal opinion.

Apart from the fact that an English lawn is hardly useful for anyone here, it doesn't take long to get the lawn into the right or also the not so great direction. With our lawn, I notice very clearly when I take care of it a little, and as tomtom writes, from my point of view, it's fertilizer and mowing. And in summer, sometimes watering as well. I always manage to apply the first fertilizer in spring reliably. But I have had years where I didn't mow for several weeks in early summer and the lawn grew very strongly then. Everything overgrows, and it didn't become vigorous again for the rest of the year. On the other hand, I clearly notice that the lawn handles weeds much better and is vigorous if I mow every 1-2 weeks in the period from April/May.

Who says that we all share this opinion? I like English lawns, so if no weed grass is visible, no weeds or the like, really deep green and the area fully covered. But everyone has a different understanding of how a garden may look anyway
