I am considering—or have considered—using foil on our slope as well. However, I wouldn’t want to see the foil visible for long. On flat ground, this is often covered with wood chips or similar. But that surely won’t be possible on a slope.

You can stick the wood chips onto the foil, can't you?

Or foil printed with wood chips! - Market gap?!

Not a bad idea.

Then certain patterns could possibly also be realized ... ;)

At my parents’ place, mulch still stays on the foil on the slope. I’m curious to see.
At our place, I’m considering foregoing the foil and rather mulching really thickly.
Hazelnut, for example, doesn’t stay on the foil. It drills through it. We have a thick fleece, it doesn’t get through there, then it’s easier to remove.

Yes, the foil was not my preferred solution either. Two weeks ago, I was still telling all the neighbors that we prefer it green and want to try it without first. Then I stood for the first time with my cheap Makita trimmer in the thicket and after an hour decided that a) a brush cutter with a blade is needed, and b) I don’t want to do that a second time. It’s also not a small slope; it’s almost 35 meters. And because of the huge alders, there were 50-100 shoots on the slope, some already so deeply rooted that you couldn’t get them out anymore. And very many thick thistles and nettles. Too much. In all other beds I have worked without foil so far and instead put thick mulch on, which actually works quite well. Weeds come through, but for the most part can be pulled out easily. That’s also because I was way too lazy to prepare the soil properly. :D

We mulched a small slope path. On Sunday morning, there was 50mm of rain within 1.5 hours. Parts of the mulch followed gravity along with the water. Now it is being repaired. Until then, the path held up quite well. It's definitely worth a try.
