Yesterday I read in a newspaper article that a lawn mower is basically sufficient for 7 (in words seven) households because the lawn areas are getting smaller anyway, but every homeowner insists on having their own mower.

Ask your neighbors what they think about that.

As another ecological option, besides flower meadows, sheep were mentioned and finally even rabbits whose free-range enclosure is moved every other day to keep the grass short. I would not recommend chickens because they turn your lawn into a field.

I think it's really cool that only 7 households need a lawnmower. I mean, there is even an app where tools can be shared. But like with almost everything in life, who is liable or who repairs it when it breaks.

There are bantam chicken breeds that hardly scratch. However, they will not keep the grass short.
