Native(!) privet? You can get it in any shape and height, it also blooms.

I only know it as a bush. Thornless roses would also be an option... I’ll have to take a look. Many thanks !

I had also thought about the kiwi thing before. Do they survive the winter? Here we sometimes still have -10 degrees or below.

I also once tried a purple one, and it gave up quite quickly. However, it was during that drought summer, when quite a few things went kaput.

Yes. But they need a lot of sun to thrive. Then they grow like weeds.

Yes, we had some. But I find them quite unattractive in terms of foliage. Did they have flowers? I can’t remember. They had large leaves that fell off at the first frost and I found that terrible. That typical foliage which falls off all ragged. How does the sought-after plant climb? Along a wall with those suction roots or should it wind around wire or a trellis?
