It also depended on the variety here. I have old tomato varieties and we neighbors always exchange seedlings. Unfortunately, I don't know which varieties they were (gift horse and all that). In addition, seeds were completely sold out last year. I have had a favorite variety for years, a small yellow pear, bears first until the end. Super tasty and perfect for children. I fertilized in the bucket with sheep wool and humus granules. Maybe it was too little, too much, unfortunately I don't know. What rain? In the far south, we had too little to almost none. It was bad.

In spring bone dry, then often just annoyed people, so not much. Although that can be deceptive. Because of the heat, what is already little for us is not enough. But tomatoes moist, then also the lens effect of the drops and again really hot. Overall, I watered less than in 2019 or 2018.

You should water tomatoes yourself anyway, they really don’t like standing in the rain. Or am I mixing something up (I clearly lack the green thumb)

We also had a lot of cracked tomatoes, my father said it was due to irregular watering. Better to water often and less, and avoid direct sunlight.

There are both resistant outdoor varieties as well as old varieties that do not need to be sheltered.

It also happened to us with the covered tomatoes.
