At 6.60 meters there are 13 plants. The recommendation from various suppliers was 2-3 plants per meter. I based it on the trellises and always placed a plant where a trellis ends or meets another. In my estimation, I can control this slow-growing ivy in width/height by pruning it more often. Since my husband and I are a bit older, it was important to me that the area close to the boundary design of my neighbors grows over relatively quickly.

My wish was for taller trellises at the boundary, but the neighbor did not allow that. So it remains somewhat "restless," as I cannot completely neutralize the neighboring construction at the boundary.

I don't understand why she doesn't allow it. Her wood symphony is higher. The "normal" ivy from the neighbor covers 15 m of wall as a single plant. Yours just seem a bit too many to me.

Looks very nice, what kind of ivy is that? In my experience, ivy grows wherever it wants if you let it. So in all directions, both vertically and horizontally. However, it should be possible to keep it in check if you cut it before it develops those Terminator shoots where you don’t want them.

In the transition house we have ivy / ground cover - no idea if my uncle planted it once, or if it settled here by itself. Anyway, they haven’t been cut for decades, and they could probably strangle you if you insult them.

Apparently, a taller carport/garage is allowed, but a taller "fence" is not. Aside from the fact that her carport is an illegal construction and basically not allowed either... however, we didn't want to argue on that level. Ivy species have different growth rates and heights/widths. I myself am curious how ours will develop. You are probably right and there are too many plants, then I will simply give away a few of them once they get bigger. It's called "Hedera Helix Goldchild" and is a very bright, friendly variety that is supposed to have beautiful golden leaves growing in the sun, and all year round. I intend to watch it with eagle eyes and prune regularly. I am aware that ivy is controversial and not as popular anymore.

Did I understand correctly, you want to paint the curbstones so that they look like the pavement? That's botched.. Leave it as it is. It's good like that. The other way it will look strange. One question.. do such rounded curbstones actually exist? It looks very neat!

I'm afraid the thin lattice arches won't hold the ivy in the long run.

Forget the idea. He clings to the climbing possibilities, you will never get him off them unharmed. However, I also fear that the thin trellises will eventually fall over with the ivy.
