Just because of the ventilation system we have, not heating wouldn't be so great.
Additionally, you also lose energy when not heating, because an apartment door doesn't keep the cold out of the basement.

And I'm not going to invest extra costs in the basement to be able to use it as a living basement (guest room, hobby room, and utility room) only to use it later just as a storage basement. That’s more like money flushed down the toilet.

Apart from that, it’s not about having the basement cozy warm, but not cold.

A guest room and the utility room do not yet make a living basement for me. Both usually do not need to be heated. And heating the entire basement just because of the hobby - I don't know. Well, my hobby is in the living room - it is bright, airy, and warm there, and I always keep an eye on it. But to each their own.

[A GUEST ROOM and the utility room do not make a living basement for me. Both usually do not need to be heated. And just heating the entire basement because of the hobby – I don’t know. My hobby is in the living room – it’s bright, airy, and warm there, and I always have it in view. But to each their own.]

It’s nice that it works for you like that. But why do all the others have to behave the same way as you? You’re probably someone who doesn’t like or need a basement. Therefore, you will probably never understand why some others, apart from construction, even accept paying for heating. Both sides exist and make sense for their respective parties. For example, I see no point in having a basement that you cannot fully use because it’s not heated, so what...

Our guest room is also the office. Therefore, it is heated depending on use. The workshop is not heated much but probably won’t get too cold from the rest. And our hobby, party, and storage room is also heated. There are water pipes running downstairs, there is stuff that would freeze, and I don’t want to freeze my butt off. Here it’s heated minimally. The anteroom is heated because it is open to the hallway on the ground floor, and I have to say, it doesn’t bother me. And not everyone can pursue their hobby in the living room. Just the constant putting things away — I already constantly have to put away the sewing stuff, and it’s annoying. The cats and toddlers would also enjoy it. No, it wouldn’t fit here.

For me, a completely unheated basement would be pure waste. I would have rather built without a basement.

Our stairwell is open from the basement up to under the roof. And the hallway in the basement is heated. You can clearly tell when the heating is off. The heating is always on at 2-3 out of 6, a basic warmth is needed. All rooms are warm with us, whether used or not. The constant fluctuation of temperature is not economical with underfloor heating with [Kontrollierte-Wohnraumlüftung]. Consumption is totally fine for the outside temperature compared to the inside temperature. Just mentioned by the way

No, it’s not worth mentioning in well-insulated houses – heat rises anyway, cold stays below. It may even be that at 22 degrees room temperature in winter, the basement is gladly visited, because it won’t be icy, probably refreshingly cool [emoji6]

Edit: I’ve skipped about 10 posts or so. The topic will probably go through without my contribution anyway

This is roughly how the contractor could implement it with the staircase. However, we would close the "gap" on the left.
