[A GUEST ROOM and the utility room do not make a living basement for me. Both usually do not need to be heated. And just heating the entire basement because of the hobby – I don’t know. My hobby is in the living room – it’s bright, airy, and warm there, and I always have it in view. But to each their own.]
It’s nice that it works for you like that. But why do all the others have to behave the same way as you? You’re probably someone who doesn’t like or need a basement. Therefore, you will probably never understand why some others, apart from construction, even accept paying for heating. Both sides exist and make sense for their respective parties. For example, I see no point in having a basement that you cannot fully use because it’s not heated, so what...
Our guest room is also the office. Therefore, it is heated depending on use. The workshop is not heated much but probably won’t get too cold from the rest. And our hobby, party, and storage room is also heated. There are water pipes running downstairs, there is stuff that would freeze, and I don’t want to freeze my butt off. Here it’s heated minimally. The anteroom is heated because it is open to the hallway on the ground floor, and I have to say, it doesn’t bother me. And not everyone can pursue their hobby in the living room. Just the constant putting things away — I already constantly have to put away the sewing stuff, and it’s annoying. The cats and toddlers would also enjoy it. No, it wouldn’t fit here.
For me, a completely unheated basement would be pure waste. I would have rather built without a basement.
