500 euros per square meter more is still little compared to piling up and catching.

Albert Haus builds on a solid cellar as a basement. Although they are timber frame builders, my friends had no problem with that.

Wir Leben Haus builds solid wood. We built with them.

Rensch-Haus wanted a retaining wall and to set their house 1 m in front of it.

we built the retaining wall ourselves up to a maximum height of 2 meters and backfilled.

Why? The foundation slab was already there, BUT: we only have 480 sqm of land anyway and were able to save/level about 35 sqm and thus make it usable.

So also consider whether the plot can be used at all without backfilling

I’ll also throw the canal depth into the discussion. Depending on which direction your slope goes. We also solved it with a basement because we definitely want the living area to open into the garden. The basement should actually be completely underground with one wall. We ended up coming out exactly at ground level at the back. Now it’s being raised by 1m because otherwise we would have needed a lifting system. I can’t say the additional costs exactly. But on the wall in contact with the earth, we have thicker stones, waterproofing, and drainage. Then a WU floor slab and a valley-side strip foundation. Then 1m of filling. According to the soil report, 23,000€ are now calculated for foundation/earthworks and filling. We’re still expecting another 10,000€ to come from somewhere. The support will come on top of that!

Oh dear, oh dear, so it is more complicated than expected. Our plot is 518 sqm and the slope descends from the street. Overall, the plot has a 4m incline. The basement is currently rather fixed, based on what I have heard here - thank you very much for that! Now the question is how. Actually, we wanted a relatively large house, as 3 children's rooms and at least 1 study (preferably 2) are planned. We also do not want to do without a master bedroom with bathroom and dressing room. That means we are at 180 sqm plus. We are now wondering whether it makes sense to go down to 150 or 160 sqm and move two rooms to the basement (the studies). Then upstairs we would have "only" the children's rooms and the master bedroom with bathroom. According to the provider, a smaller house would be only 20-25T Euros cheaper...

Without knowing the elevation points and orientation, I would plan it similarly to how we do it.

The top edge of the floor slab is 1.2 m above street level for us.
Ground floor or basement, whatever you want to call it.
Utility room, cloakroom, entrance, multipurpose room, guest WC, garden access
Upper floor bedroom 2 children's rooms bathroom laundry
Attic not developed
No idea how many offered us a basement or a sunken garage. For what? Giving up garden access? More stairs every day?

Just upload your site plan with contour lines. Black out the street.
