Gaps in the lawn - When is the best time to overseed?

I would reseed larger bare spots right away. The rest then in autumn, it worked great for us and by spring it was already dense and very even. Seeding in summer is simply a waste of water and an insane amount of work.

I would have preferred it differently too. but the alternatives (large-scale Round-up or pulling up every weed individually for weeks or still no terrace or paving in summer) were out of the question. apart from that, just as much watering would have been necessary here in April and May. :-(

That’s why autumn is even better. But you can’t always choose that, I understand.

In the front garden, we will heap soil in late autumn, level it out in early spring, and then sow. Hopefully it won’t turn into a hilly landscape like in the back...

Yes, we missed that. The neighbors all did too ;) if you fertilize then 1.5-2. Otherwise, it burns from the inside ?

I take about 50% of what is stated on the package. In spring, 2x 100%, in October another 50%, then the lawn better survives the frost.

my goodness... it's just grass.... last year I overdid the fertilizer in some spots, the grass burned there, what can I say 8 weeks later the spot was green again without doing anything. When the first children, dogs, or other housemates have used the lawn, a bald spot somewhere doesn't matter to you anyway ;) I also wonder how you water the soil if you don't step on the soil.. paddles ([Schneeschuhe]) under your feet and with a finer spray square meter by square meter, otherwise the seeds will wash away on you
