Certainly not. We currently have an irregularly shaped corner plot. At the start of construction, there was exactly one official boundary stone (out of more than 20 cadastral boundary points). By now, there are two, but the rest were simply never set. The new plot is somewhat less irregular, but so far I have only found one stake that could be a boundary marker. No idea if I was just unlucky, but maybe can share some insights from his extensive experience.

It would be interesting. Our surveyors said that some would need to be set if there aren’t enough. How else would they survey the plot?

For measuring the property, no (permanent) boundary stones are needed. Normally, a stake is driven in or marked with paint, but of course, that can quickly disappear again if the excavator, neighbor's dog, ... comes along. The above-mentioned prices also only refer to marking with such a stake or similar. If you want to have a real boundary stone set, it will be more expensive.

There was nothing more with us either. Mind you, from the surveyors. They have since rotted. There are no boundary stones.

What reference point do the surveyors then use? They need at least some boundary stone nearby from which they can start.

No, they haven't needed that for a long time. They have their GPS station with them, with which they can precisely find the points recorded in the cadastre.
