Great planning. You haven't just known since yesterday that you want/need one. The building permit took more than 10 months anyway.

Just build the cistern after the house? You buy the materials yourself and probably know an excavator operator who can install it for you on a Saturday.

That was also my first thought. But unfortunately, orders are probably only placed once everything is certain. It was the same with our interior doors. Sampled in April, in August the door installer came again and measured everything, and by mid-October when we moved in, they were not immediately available, so they could only be installed in mid-November.

It wasn't mainly because of us, but the earthworks contractor. He assumed a maximum of 5 working days delivery time. It has now been 15 days. The idea for the drainage system came from the forum. And if this had to be installed, the rainwater cistern shouldn't be far from it. I only found out yesterday that the construction road would be twice as long.

General question. What is your post supposed to say now? Bad mood, trolling, or do you just want to vent your frustration?

I would place the cistern where it doesn’t cause any annoyance. Possibly near the construction road; if that is in the way for later access, I would install it last. And if it is 20m away from the drainage, just lay a KG pipe.

Lack of understanding that the failure of the civil engineer is now being shifted onto you. He knows the current situation, so he could have clarified the delivery times beforehand. Then he just has to bear the additional costs if he missed that.
