Alcohol is not allowed, but that wasn’t really an issue for us. Someone wanted Sprite, so we got that. Water was the most popular though. Sandwiches aren’t ideal because they can go bad. We always looked for things that were individually wrapped and could sit nicely in a basket without the food getting dusty or anything. There are also individually wrapped croissants or similar rolls. Those were popular. All kinds of chocolate bars, Kinder chocolate (those sticks) – honestly, the turnover was pretty high there and I always checked what was on offer. Gummy bears, mostly also in small bags, but occasionally a big box too, which could be closed again.
We set up a simple coffee machine (capsule machine from Aldi; we bought it ourselves but then donated it to the construction) and put milk in the fridge and made sure there were clean cups. That worked well, the machine easily survived. Every now and then I brought cake over, but more simple kinds, so anything you could easily eat without a plate and cake fork. But that was rather the exception. When it was very cold in winter, I cooked a big pot of soup, as I was at home unusually, and brought it over for lunch because I really felt sorry for them.
You get a sense of what is popular and what is not. Our landscaping guy liked cake, and since I was already working from home, I could bake one now and then. So I always had GaLas with a broad smile there :)
