One more question about the caseworker in Teltow - was she your caseworker for the building application or the caseworker for planning law? We already had trouble with the latter beforehand because we can't submit an application if fundamental issues aren't clarified. Do you know her name, the one who caused you so much trouble?

Since Borkwalde is not our first house, I can share with you our experiences with our two houses regarding your cistern. We once had a house in Stahnsdorf on about 700 sqm with about 240 sqm roof area, when extreme weather conditions occurred, we had Chinese water features at the downpipes, also coming from the ground. Then we retrofitted soakaway baskets and had peace. The tank would have been full quickly. When it is full, where should the water go, so after that soakaway baskets, which are not cheap either. Not to mention the pine needles, there must be grids in the downpipes otherwise they all end up in the tank. The needles get so compressed that I sometimes had to use pliers to free the pipes again. Of course always in the rain or bad weather. Now we have a rented hut with 6m3 in the ground. If we connect a suction pump from the landlord, only a trickle comes out. I would not try to water a large property with that. There are definitely better solutions to have a pump, possibly inside the tank, that provides real pressure. Personally, I wouldn’t know what to do with the 10m3. I am a fan of automatic watering and you already need about 2000 liters delivery capacity to water larger areas properly. I would then have to couple that with fresh water because the tank is certainly empty in summer at times. For me that is too much effort. Also, the rings can of course be buried by hand because they settle, but by the 4th ring at the latest the earth first has to be moved upwards and the cramped feeling in the earth is not everyone’s thing either. So you need technology, which of course costs. If after some time something should happen with the cistern or you just don’t use it anymore and want it removed, then in ?? years an excavator will go through your finished garden. I know what my wife would think of that. The top ring would have to be removed and then at least 10m3 of earth backfilled and the rest left in the ground. Knowing my luck, I would want to install something exactly on the spot in the ground where the remaining rings bother me. If I nevertheless decided to have water in the garden I would choose the front yard. We are also planning 15m from the street, there would be enough space. If the cistern is full you can water for longer than three days. You don’t pour 3000 liters into the garden in one evening.
