For control freaks the wrong contractor for me the right one.

That's how I would say it.

Yes, for control freaks that would certainly be nothing.
But we are often amazed by what else he does on the side, because he has the ambition to meet certain standards he sets for himself.
When we got the offer back then, we had a garage and a carport calculated. The garage was too expensive for us, so we said the carport would be enough. The difference was five figures, I don’t remember exactly, I’d have to look it up.
When we met at the construction site, he initially said, "of course it will be properly built." I already liked that. Then he said at some point, "I’ll also put a tent roof on it, like on the main house. Otherwise, it looks like sh**." – that made me very happy. Meanwhile, the carport also has a preparation for a garage door ("It would be nonsense not to include that in the shell construction"), a sash window with a windowsill, and is plastered inside.
At some point we talked to him about what an impressive "carport" he built for us. Then he said, "if you want a door, you have to pay for it, that’s not included now." :D

Yes, in the countryside, time runs differently. For us, all special requests were also agreed upon verbally, and additional sockets and the preparation for a wallbox with an electrical connection in the garage (the idea came to us during construction) were not charged extra. Who does that? Suddenly, there was also a frosted glass partition next to the terrace towards the neighbor. Comment from the builder: That otherwise doesn’t look good visually on the house if you don’t have a partition there. In the end, we finished the new build exactly 2 days before the contractually agreed-upon final date. And overall, we were very satisfied. All trades did excellent work and worked hand in hand. Apart from one negative Google review from a neighbor who was disturbed by the construction noise of the houses, there are no other Google reviews with text from our 1-man company + secretary, nor any website. But top work. We were always skeptical whether everything would run smoothly and finish on time, but in the end, everything worked out great. The tips during construction were also excellent. We had originally planned our shower too wide, and then he pointed out to us that it would be very tight by the sink. So we went down to 90 cm instead of 100 cm width, and the length was also reduced from 2 m to 160 cm. So the bathroom is not completely full. And all of this during the construction process. Without delay. The regional ones without websites are really the best. And also in case of complaints afterward: A shaft of the basement window was so unprotected that snow easily got in there and water always stood there (with a lot of snow), so a glass covering was quickly put over it free of charge. And that already after 2 weeks.

That really sounds like a real stroke of luck. I also prefer this approach - you usually have little to no knowledge about construction yourself, and I would also be glad if the builder and the trades have everything under control and install the right things without me interfering with my ignorance. Of course, he has to be very trustworthy for that, but he seems to fully meet that, Bingo :D I'm definitely happy for you that it's going well, especially with a baby, you really can't afford the stress.

By the way, I roughly come from the area of your first house :) So it's also exciting for me to see how such a house is built on a slope.

You are definitely still north of Stuttgart, so Northern Germany ;)
I just measured and it should be roughly around 175km as the crow flies. If you ever come towards the western Lake Constance area, you can get in touch.

The main problem is that my general contractor is poorly organized. Many things are done spontaneously and on call, which has been working pretty badly the last two years because the materials don’t arrive at the construction site within two days. The site management is more like someone who can’t even make lemon tarts. And then the problems naturally only become apparent afterward. The masons were sometimes quite off, the house drained completely into the rainwater sewer system. I’m still waiting for an acceptable acceptance protocol three months after moving in because no one updates the rework from the original version. Stuff like that.

You mean the site manager is just barely good enough to lean against walls, but no longer to step on them? (SCNR)
