Nice that many pieces of furniture are made of solid wood and not chipboard and co. The two dark vintage dressers are also great.
Thanks, I eventually moved away from chipboard stuff because during my student years (like probably everyone) I had an extreme amount of IKEA furniture. They are practical, were inexpensive back then, and versatile – but they are also plain and after a while you get really tired of them.
In the office and in the video games room I still have some IKEA Besta. These rooms basically inherited the former student living room furniture.
Is the lamp staying in the living room or is it a temporary construction? Curtains?
The lamp is staying. It was too expensive to be temporary. XD We really thought forever about what to put there, but for me pragmatism was more important than looks in that spot. We already have pendant lamps over the island and dining table, and in the TV corner I definitely wanted to have something that doesn’t create reflections on the TV. It still needs to be adjusted so it shines into the right corners.
We don’t know yet about curtains. We had some in the old house, but even then opinions were divided here. Some find them old-fashioned (I wouldn’t care, half of my furniture is "old-fashioned"), others think they’re good.
I’d have to think about what kind of system to use and whether it would look good if only some windows get curtains. For example, I will definitely leave the kitchen window clear. I wouldn’t even know what to put there. I can forget about café curtains—I doubt I’d find a three-meter wide tension rod. Side curtains are out because they would be in the way everywhere.
