Yes, I think so too, I really love that country house touch, so I would have missed them a lot. We also had them in the old house. Price-wise, about €300 for the whole house wasn’t a killer. The problem is just that everywhere you drop €300–500 here and there, and it adds up. That’s what I find so dangerous about upgradings. You really have to appeal to every new builder’s conscience to budget a bit of money for such things. Or maybe other people have more self-control; that could also be the case.

Exactly the same!
We found out yesterday that this is also a Joka floor. 535 LD Calgary country plank in "Oak Country V2".
When we selected it, I didn’t know that. We somehow didn’t have a choice except “this one or none,” since we were already watching the price. We didn’t want to upgrade by a large amount for the floor now. The general contractor had brought a few planks of it for inspection back then and said he had installed this floor last year in a house, and it looked great, and it only cost about €8/m² extra. The other parquet floors we could have selected were all significantly more expensive. We liked it, then asked for the current price and ordered it for – I don’t even remember? Maybe €11 or €13 extra, I think. Back then, however, I didn’t know the manufacturer; I have to admit I thought it was a cheap manufacturer.
Yesterday I saw the designation and googled what it costs online. Since we only have €35 material price in the contract, you really can’t complain about the surcharge. But we had already ordered it binding almost a year ago because the stuff keeps getting more expensive.

I think so. Kind of like in the photo. It was originally planned that the whole staircase would be wood-colored.

This is how we also wanted to have our staircase built. Friends of ours have it like that too, and they strongly advised us against it because even the mop or vacuum cleaner make the risers and walls look quite worn after a few years. We will probably go for a steel staircase now. With side panels.

I believe that. When we still wanted to build with a developer, I had already budgeted a flat €50,000 for the "visually necessary" upgrades, because I would definitely have wanted an upgrade everywhere and would have had to hold myself back in some places. Now, in the existing house, we do that bit by bit, but then you can simply do it whenever you have the money. It just takes much longer for everything to look "nice."

Funny, ours is also a Calgary country plank, cream oiled it should be. It really isn’t that cheap, we pay around €80/sqm. Not extremely expensive, but not a bargain either. The floor installer would have suggested it too if we hadn’t come up with it ourselves. We have already seen it in the family; it’s super robust. It withstands kids and previously dogs there and is really great.

I really like that too. I would also rather wipe the staircase more often and possibly repaint it every few years than take something made of steel or so. Of course, it’s a matter of taste, but for a nice (country house) look I would accept that.
I don’t find my white-painted staircase particularly more demanding in maintenance. Maybe you see stains more easily, but those are also on wood and have to be cleaned just the same. And since your steps are wood, I don’t think it will be very problematic. My parents also have white risers and haven’t had any problems so far. But I am really resilient when it comes to aesthetics and can well understand if others prefer something more practical. :D

Yeah, we already really notice that, and the bigger expenses are still coming (I think for us it will be a lot of electrical stuff). We were actually thinking "we could even move in without any upgrades and be happy with that," but then every time we're like "but we could also spend 'just a bit' here and make it EVEN better," and that's how the money flows away ;) Although I also have the feeling that if the account wouldn't allow for it now, that would be okay too. So that's why I don't really know if I would necessarily advise "you should definitely budget xy more."

I am also able to endure suffering if it makes things more beautiful. I regularly wipe a washbasin with a dry cloth afterward because I wanted to have washbasins. Of course, that's time-consuming. But if something is worth having, then it's worth maintaining. If I always only had practical things, then I wouldn't like many things that much. I also fold my laundry nicely. I think I've watched too much Netflix.

Besides, I'm trying to enforce that people don't go inside with shoes in the new house. I'm curious how well that will work. In northern Germany, that was really common in most apartments, and I got used to it there over more than 10 years. We ourselves also never walk around indoors with street shoes. I'm curious how I'll teach that to my family. It's extremely unusual here. I already clashed with my mom in the transitional apartment because she wanted to go from the hallway toward the bedrooms and into the children's room, and when I asked her to please take off her street shoes, she just said, "I don't think my shoes are that dirty."

We are very curious about the floor. I'm glad you say it's robust.
