So these are white strips that you stick on the front edge. They feel a bit like Velcro. Apparently they work well, my wife and child are satisfied. I have to ask my wife where she got them from.

We had transparent film on our wooden stairs in the first house, maybe 4-5 cm in front of the edge and glued down at the edge. These were not special anti-slip strips, just thicker transparent adhesive film. A company did this when they were there to film the windows. It was a spontaneous action, so I can't say exactly what it was. We didn't want anything visible. In any case, it was great, it held up and helped, since then no one has slipped for us, although the film was smooth, it stopped slipping.

Search on Amazon for item number B01H3K64AO or for the provider Aumondo and then search there for "Anti-slip strips for stairs"

We also had such strips stuck on the steps for several years because the veneered beech was perfectly smooth. Over time, they became darker (due to dirt, the rough surface was difficult to clean), but were still barely visible and held up very well. Only when removing them did they leave slight adhesive residue. Thanks to the strips, the staircase, which is also very steep, was much safer for us with a toddler. Now with the new paint on it, it is no longer so smooth, so I am leaving out the strips, but for very smooth stairs, I definitely find them recommendable.

Talked to the contractor again today. I'll send him some example pictures of a wooden railing. He's going to check how much something like that costs. He hasn’t installed something that old-fashioned in 20 years. :D Although I’m also tempted by the version with the continuous glass. I’m now making it somewhat dependent on what the wooden version costs. Otherwise, we are furnished in a rural style, but this house will be a kind of hybrid in terms of style compared to House1 anyway. Country house elements meet more modern elements in various places. Therefore, I think the glass could also be stylistically appropriate. =)

We also consciously decided against glass, both for the parapet and the railing. Couldn't imagine constantly cleaning the glass  We will have a harp railing made of oak, I find it quite simple and a good compromise between modern and warm/cozy.
