We have a decision to make once again. It's about the stair railing. Our contractor called today regarding the railing. He is currently working on a large project installing an elaborate staircase system, which will have such modern glass railings. He said that normally these would be significantly more expensive (2-3k €) if you want something like that. But since he is buying a large quantity for this other project, he wanted to offer us the same. Because he is buying in large quantities, he gets a good price and wanted to offer us the option to get it cheaply as well. The additional cost would be below 1000€. Probably around 500-700. It’s about a railing like this, and it’s only about the "top," so not yet about the handrail / the railing on the staircase itself.

We need to decide in the near future because he says the rail for this glass railing has to be installed before the screed. The standard with him also includes a glass railing, but not a continuous one as shown here; instead, it would be a railing with posts and a metal handrail, and individual smaller glass elements placed between the posts. Alternatively, we can have a masonry railing at any height (like in the old house). That would be without extra charge. He advises against this, however, because he says we would lose a lot of light in the rear part of the hallway (which he’s probably right about). Personally, I’m once again leaning towards the country house style. I’m therefore imagining something made of wood again, which feels cozy and warm, like in this picture, for example:

But I don’t think the modern glass railing is bad either. The floor on the upper floor will be parquet (rustic oak), and the staircase (concrete stairs, closed) will also be covered with wood, ideally in the same tone, but that hasn’t been precisely planned yet.

This is the related floor plan (approximate, just traced in SH3D). Any ideas on this? Which do you find more stylish? Disadvantages of such a continuous glass railing? Whether a wooden railing would be extra charge, and if so how much, I don’t know yet; I can ask about that tomorrow.
