I would never take the glass with small children. You would just be cleaning all the time. But I would also like the one from the old house much better.

So personally, I find the glass element better. To me, it looks more "valuable" than the exemplarily shown wooden railing (but that is purely personal feeling, I have no idea what such a wooden railing costs, maybe it’s even more expensive). I must also add that I’m not a fan of the country house style, but rather more puristic, so I would clearly choose the continuous glass railing. You just have to be patient with small children… In our first house, we also had glass at the stairs and every, really every child, whether visitor or our own, supported themselves with the flat palm on the glass while walking. At some point, I stopped noticing it and I still liked it.

I believe he's already married as far as I know. :D
The handprint thing is a good argument, that was actually my first thought too. I said on the phone right away, "oh dear, glass - we have 2 little kids running around," and he himself chuckled a bit.

Definitely country house style. From what I've heard about your old house and the plans for the new house here, that fits much better with your furnishings, doesn't it, or did you want to move away from country house style anyway?

The photo you showed is a dream. Glass doesn't really do much for me personally; it can look chic, but I find it not very cozy.

Thank you, I am also leaning towards the country house style. I will ask what it would cost to keep everything in this wood style. Although in the old house upstairs we had a masonry railing. I would be afraid that the kids could fall through the wooden railing, or at least throw things down or something.

How strong would a masonry parapet have to be? I would take another close look at that because of the corridor width. Wooden railings certainly don't take up quite as many centimeters.
