I find the man very likeable :p (just kidding, I don't find white wooden railings old-fashioned per se).
I'm pretty much alone with my pro-glass opinion... but in my opinion, the glass element fits perfectly with the panorama window (or does it have mullions?). Otherwise, do you have many country house elements (doors, furniture) upstairs in the hallway, or do you look down from the hallway onto country house furniture? If not, I really wouldn't find it "disturbing" if the balustrade doesn't match the country house style. And even otherwise, it wouldn't bother me, since glass is visually unobtrusive, while at the same time making everything airier, brighter, and more spacious.

Or make the gallery out of glass, but I would rather make the stair railing out of wood if you also make the steps out of wood.

I also think that glass can be well combined with country style. Then it becomes more modern/Scandi country style, instead of ornate-flower-country style. (I still prefer the "old-fashioned" version :D ) In the end, you just have to like it and it has to fit with the rest.

I’ll wait and see what the price difference is. We hadn’t really planned on a big upgrade at that point. And I’d rather scale back there than, for example, do without a garage door or something like that. Although I actually think 700 for the glass solution is good. That’s doable and already a real eye-catcher. I do wonder, though, what if at some point you no longer want to see that and would prefer something other than glass there. Then you still have that track in the floor.

Well, with the sash windows, a glass railing really won’t work, at least that’s what I think.

When toddlers are wrestling and rampaging, the thought of glass balustrades gives me the shivers. You can't bring enough edge protection and foam mats to prevent injuries to the child there. :)
