If it fits your user behavior better, then do that as a carport.
However, I would plan the opening in a forward-looking way so that a garage door could fit in.

Where is the carport supposed to stand? Are the usual 5 meters of parking space in front of the possible garage being maintained? If it is only about comfortable driving in and out, then install an electric garage door with remote control. That works great.

Actually not comparable at all. A garage offers a completely different added value because it is a proper building. A carport is just a parking space.

If possible, I would always build a closed garage. It provides storage space for car accessories, bicycles, garden tools, for Christmas decorations, suitcases, etc., if you don't have the space in the house. You can set up a small workshop... The car is more protected (moisture is not an issue in a well-built garage), and especially in winter, you save yourself scraping the windows.
