Hello everyone!
A quick update on our construction. :)
We have the roof on. At the time the photo was taken, it wasn’t completely finished yet, but by now everything should be done. Saturday was a busy day of work.
The support pillars are now gone, the house looks much bigger now.
Next up on Monday is the plasterer for the utility rooms. The windows are supposed to arrive in about a week.
Contrary to the forum consensus, we’ve ordered the sash windows. It has to please us after all. ;)
Also, we went with the lift-and-slide door.
We paid an extra charge for the lift-and-slide system, a divided, electric external roller shutter for it, and the muntins. We were charged a four-figure amount for switching from black windows to white ones. All in all, this means an additional cost of about €2700.
We were shocked by the prices for the AC. In 2020, we paid €5000 including installation for an outdoor unit from Mitsubishi with 3 split units.
In the new house, we now have an offer for a Toshiba with 4 split units—probably a more powerful outdoor unit since we have a bigger house—at €14,000.
We spoke with the company and will now get offers for alternatives from other manufacturers. Toshiba was originally chosen because the customer service in the region is easily reachable and fast.
Of course, we expected to pay more than €5000, but we didn’t see the almost threefold price coming. Crazy stuff.
Next week is also the first electrical site inspection. We’re looking forward to it. Every inspection here also means “getting to know the trades.” In the village, things run a bit differently. The tradespeople here are much less “salesmen in suits” and much more “craftsmen in overalls,” compared to our first build. So far, I can’t find anything bad about it.
Oh yes – this time we probably won’t have any drama about the sanitary fixtures / the installation and warranty.
If we want, we can get a credit from the builder for what he had calculated for the sanitary stuff, order the stuff ourselves, and he’ll still install it for us. He said we’ll just check the things together on site beforehand to make sure everything was fine upon delivery. Very relaxed mindset, which already takes some stress off me.
