I just looked at the plan again. We are talking about the opening above the dining table and the small opening to the left is a regular patio door? The layout actually suggests either fully (sliding door) or not at all (fixed glazing, possibly with a window that can be opened at the top). Although, to be honest, I’m not sure if the sliding door would actually be used that often when you’re maneuvering past the dining table with a tray full of dishes. The 2-meter longer route through the patio door seems more practical to me. If I were you, I would set up some boxes where you want the dining table to be later and then test the paths.

You got a good price for the casement windows. We had a sampling today and were supposed to pay an extra 3300 euros for them. We decided against it and chose nicer interior doors instead. We are building a brick-clad bungalow.

Yes, it is also cheaper than for our last house. Maybe because this time there is no construction company involved that also takes a margin. We negotiated directly with the window manufacturer.
But only the internal muntins are included, no Vienna bars or anything like that.

Our window maker said that aluminum had become so expensive that even granite was not much more expensive and recommended it for both the more valuable appearance and the noise level during rain. However, since we are insulating externally with rock wool, the architect advised against it. It would not hold. Otherwise, it would have been natural stone for us.

That's how it is with our lift-and-slide door too. But I never thought of pushing it shut from the outside. You don't have a handle there, you'd have to push on the frame. We have granite window sills, which at 20 euros/m weren't really expensive.

You have larger continuous window panes when closed, so a nicer view outside. And you don't have inside disturbing window sashes when the window is open. We have that at the dining area, where we wouldn't have enough space for window sashes.
