We are in the North, but my mother-in-law still always wears shoes and thinks it's "uptight" that she should take them off at our place. But I am strict about it too; why should I spread dirt from the street (dog pee, chewing gum, cigarette butts, dust) inside my house... I really find it disgusting.

So I totally agree with you. I also have a dry cloth under the sink and wipe the faucet every time so it shines. :D

Or you do it yourself...
I paid a total of 350 EUR for my baseboards including mounting adhesive and an inflationary number of corner blocks.
And what the two glass doors for the kitchen and living room would have cost through the general contractor including installation, I’d rather not even know... that way I had them installed in just under 3 hours with a helper (only for alignment).

Oh sorry. It was 500 EUR after all. 350 were just the trims themselves.

So I'm not the only one? I also tried to explain to her that I don’t like it. Even if the shoes aren’t covered in mud, you still walk through dirt, animal excrement, etc. outside – I don’t want to spread that on the floor I also walk barefoot on. I can argue that we have parquet flooring and you don’t want to mop it wet too often.

No, you're not! I really can't stand it either, especially not in the bathroom or sleeping area. Back then I said I didn't like it because of the crawling child, and then the "playing-on-the-floor phase" came right after; that was generally accepted and shoes were taken off. We've long been out of the crawling age, but shoe-free has remained.

Shoes off, or you'll get kicked out! Surprises me that in [D] it's apparently not normal. I thought only the Americans were like that. I always cringe inwardly when they sit on the sofa with shoes on in the shows. Grrr.
