No wonder no one wants to work in trades anymore. Not only do you have to work hard and heavy for little money. Now you also have to walk around barefoot or risk slipping off the ladder wearing overshoes.

By the way, painter's fleece is not harmless either. It actually encourages carelessness: "Oh, there's fleece here, come on, let's push the heavy cabinet..."

I think it’s somehow too hot this week... In any case, you can’t wipe a light carpet and some things can’t be vacuumed out either. I would never expect someone to take a safety risk. I’d rather get the painter’s fleece from the attic and lay it on the carpet. Fortunately, people can talk, and you can discuss whether taking shoes off is possible or not. Then I can still decide whether to risk stains on the carpet or to lay out the painter’s fleece.

Once, a boss of a glazing company came to make an offer for the shower wall. I asked him to take off his shoes. He had a big hole in a sock, which was visibly embarrassing for him, and he tried to somehow hide it. He still got the job.

I don't have much to show yet. =)
But regarding the move: We hired a moving company. I was hesitant to look for one after the fiasco last time. This time, I only contacted regional companies. You can tell in the price, everything has generally gotten more expensive.
We had offers ranging from 3400 to 5500 euros for about 62m³ from single-family house to single-family house, distance about 10 km.
I found that ridiculously expensive, even the cheapest one, but since all three were around the same price, we accepted. The cheapest were also the friendliest people (and even somehow based in my hometown, so we know each other indirectly from back then).
Things like MyHammer or moving comparison portals I avoided this time like the devil avoids holy water. Burned child.

Then we picked out the railing, it will look something like this (example photo):

We reconsidered the wooden handrail. Otherwise, it would have been a metal rod, which would have looked too much like a doctor's office to me. Metal railings aren't really my thing anyway, but since it’s a concrete staircase and generally very different from our old country-style staircase, the extra cost for an all-wood solution was too much for me. The handrail made of wood instead of metal will cost between 400-500€. o_O

And the front door will be something like this:

This time the standard really had to be enough. Although I’ve seen the offer, and the standard is already over 4000€. o.O
Only the house number will still go on the glass above, which costs an extra 20 euros or so. :D
But he already said that the general contractor probably won't bother to write a receipt for that.

I once bought the overshoes somewhere, standard.

After a long day at work, cheese or sweaty feet just don't have to be.
Until today, not a single craftsman has complained that he has to put them on.

… that nobody wants to work in the trades etc. We're not stupid, the craftsmen shouldn't have to put those things on and off if they go in and out 10 times. But if he comes in once, is in the house for an hour, then that's reasonable! So just keep your feet on the ground..

Many things are reasonable. But it also reflects a certain attitude towards the craftsman. It is generally assumed that the craftsman does not wipe his shoes anyway and that there is always a centimeter-thick layer of dirt and stones underneath. Which often happens because the builder/owner does not keep his driveway clean, which the craftsman has to inevitably walk over to get to the house.

I find it completely exaggerated. A week ago, five guys from the moving company stormed through the place, there are still gravel and a few Euro pallets outside. I didn’t even vacuum afterwards; there was nothing. And none of them wiped their shoes...

Accordingly, I am also baffled by the price and, even more, by the volume in m³ charged.
We paid €1,400 gross for 30m³ including the lift at the loading location. From the 2nd floor into the house. Distance approx. 3km.

But 62m³? For a (still) 3-person household? With 4 people we already have at least 30, 40 boxes, and I wonder why and what this whole stuff is needed for at all...
Well, the living room was new, a child's room too, and therefore didn't have to be moved, and I had always moved a bit before. Otherwise, it might have been 40m³.

But 62?
