Well, I also know it like this, that you take off your shoes at the front door. I even know that you bring your slippers when you are invited somewhere ;)

No no, my wife also regularly admonishes me when I forget. Normally, we don't wear shoes inside the house. However, when I've done big shopping or am working on something, I ignore these instructions. ;)

I'm still testing the tolerance threshold of my wife. So far, no pattern recognized.

That would be a problem for me - I don't have any. I always walk barefoot/in socks ;)

Is this related to the region? I absolutely don't know anyone in my circle of friends/family/acquaintances who ever wears their shoes inside the apartment.

Maybe it’s not regional either, but in my family’s house (where I grew up), and also with my oldest sister, nobody does that as far as I know. They all probably wear their slippers at home, but sometimes they also walk around the garden with them, or the other way around they also walk around the house with street shoes. I can’t stand that, for me the floor is no longer a comfort zone afterward. Where I walk barefoot / in socks, I don’t want street shoes to have been there before. There are also children playing there, etc.

Children also play in the garden, have dirty hands, wipe their faces with them. Younger children regularly put their hands in their mouths. If that is supposed to be an argument, children should only be allowed to play outside on daily vacuumed concrete...

It is rumored that we are developing more and more allergies because our environment, where we spend most of our time, is far too clean and germ-free. In grandpa's days, the kitchen table was not wiped down with Sagrotan every 5 minutes...

We don’t wipe anything here with Sagrotan, you can usually eat off our floor and be satisfied, and yet we don’t wear shoes inside... I think street dirt is something completely different from a few blades of grass from our own garden, kid drool, or crumb-covered hands.

Besides, wearing shoes inside the house is super uncomfortable, you can’t really lounge properly on the sofa. Unless you take your shoes onto the sofa with you... I don’t want to even imagine that.
