You can't start from the bathroom, as you can only use a maximum of 295 cm there.

And I really don't understand your problem with version 2. It's only about the small corner that needs to be newly set .. in red. Green is the existing entrance hall wall. The door might then need to be moved a bit further to the right.

Otherwise, you should mark where everything is. I created versions 1 and 2 with the measurements from your attached floor plan.

And if you position the stairs properly, you can still place built-in chests or cabinets to the right under the stairs.

Sorry, I was a bit slow. I thought that the entire wall of the [Windfang] would need to be moved further towards the entrance door. If it's just this one small corner, then it really shouldn't be a problem.

Then I also really like the last suggestion, as I really like the 1/2 turned stairs.

Many heartfelt thanks for your effort!

Hello Silke,

why don't you choose the easiest of all options and install a double return staircase in the current children's room "1"? The ascent in the attic should come out pretty central, so there should be no problems with headroom there ... provided that the existing roof pitch even allows for an extension.

Do you think that could work? After all, it is a hip roof bungalow, roof pitch currently still unknown.

And, of course, one would take away the possibility of extending the living room into Children's Room 1.

Hello building expert,

we also considered that option and initially favored it. But as kbt09 says, we would take away the possibility of expanding the living room. However, that was never up for debate before the attic conversion – so maybe it’s not that important. But it would lose a lot of living space “just” for a staircase.

The possible problem with the roof pitch could be solved with a dormer. That would mean additional costs, but anyway light needs to be brought into the upper hallway and with today’s prices for good Velux windows, a dormer solution might not be that much more expensive?!? However, I haven’t really looked into that yet.

I find it such a pity that the staircase cannot simply be accommodated in the (yes, so large) hallway. But it is what it is. When we bought the house, we didn’t think we would ever need children’s rooms .

Hello,

What difference does it make – except for the conversion effort – whether the new staircase is positioned at the spot you sketched or in the existing room "1"? In both variants, the staircase should lie quite under the ridge; although I almost believe that your variants push the staircase too close to the roof edge.

Of course, it always depends on the RP; that’s why I wrote it exactly that way

The OP wants to largely keep the ground floor as is, or did I miss something?

Rhenish regards
