Hanging Ikea Besta shelves - Wall mounting

Recently, I wanted to assemble a Besta combination and had prudently asked Ikea how much load a wall-mounted cabinet can bear. Answer: 30 kg including the door.

The weight is not transferred from the back panel to the bracket, but via the screw and the plastic peg that is inserted into the groove of the back panel.
There are also other brackets for such cabinets, e.g. from Hettich, but for those very precise holes have to be drilled into the side panels. Unfortunately, the metal brackets with hanging rail for Besta from Ikea are only available in the USA.

In the end, we did not use the carcasses because they were too odorous for us and caused problems.

Ok, so it should at least be possible as long as you do not exceed the 30kg including the door. I am curious.

I chose a squared timber as additional support, directly doweled to the wall under the BESTA element. This also makes assembly much easier because you don’t have to hold the cabinet while screwing it in, as it already rests on the squared timber. Furthermore, this allows several elements to be perfectly aligned at the same height.

It worked for us because the cabinet hangs quite deep, so the squared timber is not visible (unless you lie on the floor).

There is also no reason not to add a fourth hanging point to the 120 cm wide element instead of the recommended three. The necessary material (this plastic part) is included anyway.

The plastic parts only have a partially load-bearing function! They also serve to prevent the back panel of the shelf from bending when screwing it to the wall. The plastic part is a simple spacer, which also acts as a drilling template.

8mm wall plugs and countersunk screws that penetrate 4cm deep into the wall are definitely sufficient. Therefore, I would use 6x75mm or 6x80mm screws and a regular plastic expanding wall plug.

The weakest point of the BESTA furniture is the top panel, which consists internally of a chipboard frame and cardboard honeycombs. This top panel supports the side panels and thus the weight of all shelf boards.

If you want to hang BESTA furniture on a wall that is not suitable for wall mounting (i.e., furniture with a depth of 40cm and a height of more than 38cm), you must support it from underneath with iron brackets. These must be screwed to the wall and bear the weight of the shelf.

I have done that now and my shelf is lying on the floor... What did I do wrong??? 8 mm dowels with 6x85 mm screws in the drywall... What is wrong...???? Help

For expansion anchors: Screw length in the wall = anchor length - 5 mm.

The specification of the expansion anchor was probably intended for a normal brick wall. For plasterboard panels, there are special anchors or suitable cavity anchors can be used. The websites of the anchor manufacturers provide helpful information.
