It is not a mistake of almost 10 cm, because plaster definitely has to be deducted from the 407.5 cm. And for that I would always generally assume 5 cm for 2 walls. Error of 4 to 5 cm. Here it really needs to be clarified whether maybe a limiting wall had to be built thicker or something like that. The problem now is, the house stands, the plaster has been applied, the roof is on, etc., so it's not so easy to correct all that. If the kitchen planning was based on 401 cm with a binding order and fit correctly, there should actually be max. 390/395 cm of cabinets and the rest filler panel. The exact planning would have to be checked, then something suitable should still be possible with 398 cm. Therefore .. show the dimensioned floor plan of the kitchen planning.

If you show up on the first day of construction with a tape measure and spirit level next to the construction crew, then the lines are clear. No one expects daily inspections, but you should be present. And the construction workers must always expect an inspection from the builder. That’s really all there is to it.

Sure, you can let everything run on its own and, like some, just fly on vacation at the start of construction. But then you should also lower your expectations.

We’re not talking about buying a new iPhone here, but for most people about the biggest investment of their lives.

You are of course right and I would like to correct myself.

The only loss of control here is on the site manager’s part. You can’t blame a layperson building their first house for not being there every day to check. If I were to build again, I would also be there at the first row and check the measurement chains. But that is experience learned from damage, which ideally shouldn’t be necessary.

How do you arrive at 4.01 m for the kitchen?

The laughter will surely be yours.
But yes, then the positions are clear. The client is a smart-ass who rather walks around with a spirit level than brings coffee and rolls.

You always have such great tips up your sleeve, Buchsbaum.

By the way, the construction workers don’t give a damn, because as a rule their client is the general contractor or the architect. The client has absolutely no say, at most he can ask politely.

No mason ever intentionally builds a wall wrong anyway. Just to assume that is already an insult and reason to kick the smart-ass off the construction site.
