We decided at the time on an open wooden cladding with boards of different widths. Originally, we also considered larch, rhombus, and other ideas, but these came across, in our opinion, to a very pragmatic, price-conscious carpenter who worked in our favor, and who implemented our ideas in an affordable and stylish way.
Vertical spruce boards, 14 cm wide, cut in varying widths (14/10/7/4), and 24 mm thick were used for about €12 per sqm (should not be significantly more expensive today). Underneath, we had wood fiber insulation, black (possibly even blue + red) foil for this purpose. After some time, we still really like it, although next time I would use planed boards, because painting ourselves with the weathering lasur on the unplaned wood was really tough. In addition, in our case (near a farm and lots of greenery), cobwebs tend to collect on the unplaned wood fibers. Overall, it became a really inexpensive, stylish solution and also offers the option to remove, cut, or do whatever with a board at any time if needed.
Basically, you can also do this yourself well; unfortunately, this was not possible for us for certain reasons.
