My grandfather had his house confiscated because he was critical of the government and had to flee. Can I also sing its praises, like how everything used to be better?

That is the difference from today. And of course, one always asks oneself what someone in the GDR was who thought all of that was great.
I also wondered that with acquaintances because they really constantly complain here and thought everything was much better back then... until I was then told that they were with the Stasi. No further questions...

And that this is not the case today is an essential part of our prosperity. One that cannot be expressed in figures. And when the parts of prosperity that can be expressed in figures don’t look entirely rosy, it’s immediately the end of the world.

But and that is part of the truth... Freedom is demanding. Not necessarily because you have to choose between 40 strawberry jams on the shelf. A free person must constantly make decisions. In a dictatorship, like the GDR, that was easier. The apartment was assigned, there was only one car, the profession was mostly assigned according to need, you could only travel to a few countries, the stores had limited selection... In a free democracy, you are responsible for many things yourself... You cannot blame anyone if you chose the wrong job or invested your money in the wrong stock. That can be frustrating... Therefore, free societies eventually collapse and the call for a strong leader who finally takes decisions away from you becomes loud...

My great-uncle died in the concentration camp - and he did not fall from the watchtower. So no, I do not need a dictatorship.

In 2 federal states, AfD and BSW together have a majority, in 2 other federal states at least in the polls

What the individual wants unfortunately does not matter. What the majority wants is decisive.
Like in the USA, 48% did not want Trump... but it didn't help.
