Huh? I wouldn't know having said that.

But this does not apply to food. Nowhere is what people consume themselves sold as cheaply as here. Reason? It can't be because of what is trusted to us…

We Germans on average also eat more industrially processed (and thus tend to be cheaper and worse) food than many other Europeans. Is that one or THE reason? No idea. But yes, Germany is the country worldwide where you can buy food (basket of goods comparison) among the cheapest. And here I also include Asian countries, which sometimes only have 15-25% of the average income. I have the feeling the priority is rather where to catch the cucumber 10 cents cheaper (not where to buy better quality). This also often applies to people who could afford better food (I personally know a few of them).

I know from suppliers from France, from my vegetable dealer, firsthand, that the mass of products from Germany is only reached if they are too bad for France. Those who want home quality have to build contacts themselves.

Yeah, German vegetables and fruit are really a complete disaster - except for cabbage and beets. But how are tomatoes supposed to have any taste if they grow on cotton wool. Same goes for peppers, cucumbers, and everything else that could taste good. In Southern Europe, I eat salad almost daily, with the produce from German supermarkets I might as well suck on the packaging carton of the frozen pizza. Really sad. But it can always get worse - keyword fruit Norway supermarket.

For the "quality" it's also too expensive...

Right. We pay relatively a lot of money for the trash that the supplying countries do not want. I see no contradiction to my statement there. If I pay 25,000 EUR for the Opel Astra, while the 1 Series BMW is available for 30,000 EUR, I have made an extremely bad deal with the Opel, even though the Opel appears "cheaper" in absolute terms...
