The difference between tax classes 3 and 4 with a gross income of 5000 euros is almost 500 euros per month in net salary.

Surely just peanuts for most here. I am not sure if everyone takes this reduction in income into account in times of high inflation and real wage losses.

The fact is, there is once again less net from gross. An outrageous disgrace.

Benefits from [Bürgergeld] above the tax-free allowance are also tax-free, by the way. Where is the equal treatment there?

Foreign skilled workers are supposedly to be favored tax-wise and receive tax discounts. Is that to be seen as equal treatment as well?

This will be compensated through your annual tax return. That in 2024 people still don't know that it's ultimately only an advance payment ...

Well, so there are almost 2 years between my income tax return and the monthly wage tax payment.

When I then submit my income tax return, all sorts of arbitrary things get deducted. Regardless of whether it's travel expenses or work-related expenses. I argue with the tax office for months.

For example, if a detour of 30 km on the way to work becomes necessary due to a road closure that has now been in place for 2 years. Proofs, objections, and in the end they reduce the kilometers for me. My money is initially with the state. Sure, you can sue to get your money back.

I don't care. I'm almost 60 and if I have even less net income, I'll just stop working. 2 years of unemployment benefit 1 and then I retire at 63. I probably won't be the only one.

Allegedly 14 million employees are affected by the elimination of tax classes 3/5. The main earners of society are being increasingly burdened. Not good! Not good at all!

But that already happens to you now and has nothing to do with 3/5 vs. 4/4? If you were one of my students, you would be on the toilet for off-topic. How did the 3/5 families record their tax statement once a year? If there was nothing, they now get a proper refund in 4/4. If there were additional payments, they disappear. And you can't just cross that out or have to sue for it, because: it has nothing to do with detours, mileage allowance, or any work-related expenses – THAT is your off-topic. A feeling once again upgraded to a thought...

That is really nonsense. In the end, the tax burden remains the same, whether you pay more or less in advance, the state gets its money. We are also a family and had the 3/5 for a while, I cannot see any injustice through its abolition. It was just practical to catch something here and there for a while, but the final settlement still came eventually.

It is about additional revenue for the state. Why should it abolish the tax classes if it would not result in additional revenue.

According to the net wage calculator, I pay about 272 euros income tax on a gross salary of 2800 euros with tax class 4. Currently, with tax class 3, it is only 32 euros.

I will probably have to resort to more undeclared work after all. It brings more anyway.
