Many are probably right here that more could be gained from above than from below. At the same time, multimillionaires are not so easily taxed because they would simply emigrate (they can choose citizenship anywhere).

But that we feed underperformers without limits and do not sanction them causes, in my view, a huge problem in Germany: It destroys any culture of achievement and spreads like a virus. You can already notice that many people are no longer willing to do demanding jobs because they are being led to believe it can be done more easily. As a result, probably every second employee who earns less than €100k asks themselves: Why should I even work anymore, I can’t afford a better life anyway, and others get it for free.

Secondly, the culture is destroyed because politicians and leaders of our society convey the image: Even if you are an underperformer, you can make it to the top. Ricarda Lang tells the world: a hard study and hard work are not relevant – it can be done differently.

If we do not correct these fundamental issues as quickly as possible, the country will go to the dogs day by day. And I don’t understand why no one gets it... It is a system problem that is very difficult to abolish. We would also need many more career changers in our politics.

Is this a joke? I am rather demotivated when I see how little prosperity I can provide for my family as a PhD biologist working a 50+ hour week. Salary increases, oh no, we are doing so badly! Bonuses, oh, really bad this year. And the company founder buys real estate like my wife buys decorations and may now be making more money from rental income than from his company. Which is doing well.

And anyone who claims that professional politics requires no skills and no performance should try a party career for themselves. I only do a bit of local politics and even that is time-consuming and forces me to learn more about laws and politics than I ever wanted. That’s such a cheap, unimaginative diss. Just say it directly: she is a woman you find visually unappealing from a party you don’t like, so she must be dumb and stupid and mean the downfall of this country.

Career changers, we can now calmly look at those in the USA.

Sorry, I won’t let that pass like this. Where exactly do we indefinitely support underperformers without sanctioning them? “People who fail to fulfill their duties under Bürgergeld without good reason can have their benefits reduced. This was the case in the previous system, and it is also the case with Bürgergeld.” Source: BMAS And again: “However, the reason for reduction ‘refusal to take up or continue work, training, measures or a subsidized employment relationship,’ which also includes further education and qualifications, is statistically recorded. It turns out that in the first eleven months of 2023 there were a total of 13,838 cases.” Source: Tagesschau These 13,838 cases in relation to 82 million people in Germany are just 0.016% of the people in Germany. Nobody can come to me with “indefinitely” or with the suggestion that because of this other people no longer want to do demanding jobs. That’s nonsense. And as for the reference to Ricarda Lang, only you know what that’s supposed to mean. Is Master painter Chrupalla now the better politician than dropout Lang?

At least there is – also from the statistics – the figure of 4 million employable Citizen's Allowance recipients. I seriously wonder why at Edeka the fresh food counter is closed at noon due to staff shortages and why at our café there is no longer table service because there is no staff. Seriously? I don’t care at all how qualified someone is. If the job is offered to them and they do not accept it (there are plenty of reasons not to do it or to behave so badly in the job interview that they don’t get hired at all), then there is simply no more money. Those are not underperformers recorded in the statistics. Duck and cover...

Cafés and restaurants unfortunately suffer greatly because students and pupils find better jobs. My sister has a small restaurant, so I know the complaints about staff there. There is only one regular employee, and that is the second cook alongside her partner.

That's exactly how it is. And if you look more closely, it gets even worse. 50% of the Bürgergeld recipients are foreigners. Or you are looking for a cleaning person. Nobody wants to be officially registered there... Why is that?
That simply cannot be conveyed to the broad public.
