I recommend googling the "tragedy of the commons." The social science description of a phenomenon that just took hold of you.

Quote: "The tragedy of the commons arises when every farmer tries to graze as much livestock as possible for as long as possible on the common pasture, and no one takes care of the soil. As a consequence, the land will eventually become barren and the livestock will starve. According to Hardin, the tragedy consists in the inevitability of this catastrophe, which emerges from the collective behavior of seemingly rational individuals acting in their own self-interest."

I can't see what this has to do with the tragedy of the commons. It's much more about the fact that individuals, even if they wanted to act preventively against their own interests, cannot fully do so. Practically speaking, because the necessary large-scale structures do not exist. My point was that the interplay of individual single decisions aka the market cannot address the problem here, because the price optimum and resource optimum do not align. This is because there are no prices for nature use, atmosphere use, etc., but there are still consequential costs in the future. But this has nothing to do with the tragedy of the commons at first, or did I misunderstand you?

What specific guilt do I bear for the "spermalottery"? A homeless person in Africa doesn't even have that problem because there are no bitterly cold nights there. Cynical? Possibly. But it is part of the truth that many countries in southern regions simply do not have our problems regarding insulation and heating...

My post couldn’t have been that misleading, could it?

None.

That’s not the point. I’ve heard that igloos aren’t heated either; people just dress warmer.

It’s neither about guilt nor environmental advantages/disadvantages. It’s about the fact that the idea of purely demand-driven climate protection cannot work. Because the ecosystem services and their potential collapse do not generate price signals by themselves.
Putting all responsibility on citizens’ consumption behavior is therefore a massive distraction from the large structures for which states and corporations are directly responsible. The big wheels have to be turned there.

Is Town & Country facing bankruptcy? Or is that just the impression the company gives because they offer better prices?

They do not offer better prices - they offer affordable houses. That is a world of difference. Because you don't get a Viebrockhaus or anything similar from them.
