Why are the fronts of the island different? The shelf on the left side as a tall cabinet could have also been very well used there as a repetition and balance of the other widths.

What exactly is different? The shelf is great and fits both visually and practically for us ;)

edit: do you mean the distance of the handles on the tall cabinets?

The week went by one thing after another for us. Kitchen assembly, Telekom, moving—all on the same day. We are super satisfied, also thanks to the tips here from the forum.

Was it complicated / expensive to have the countertop extend into the windowsill?

We ordered that later for one side and ended up paying something between 200-300€ extra for an additional piece. But that was because it was on the side.
If you have a countertop extend further back, it can be even more expensive because the whole countertop then has to be ordered in extra depth (the entire slab must be as deep as the deepest point).

The island doors at Mic's kitchen are 60-50-50(100 cabinet)-60, because the cooking side is 60-100-60. The island could have been made 225 long (front 45-90-90) and would have had 5 x 45 doors on the back. At one point, there were no cabinets planned on the back but only a counter. And that was just missed at the end. Because the passageway would have been sufficient even with 225. But I don't find it that bad.
