Sure, of course that also applies to a kitchen, right? It’s also about quality with furniture, which is just as reflected in the price as with kitchens, and eventually design (or frou-frou) starts to drive the price—that’s the same for kitchens, furniture, clothing, and whatever else. The question is also what you understand by “design” and I must say that I very much like looking at beautiful things, a visible brand name is less important to me, I don’t really have many visitors to impress anyway.

Downgrading something is generally lame, because everyone can live however they want. On the other hand, I also don’t think it’s quite “fair” when, for example, a Rolf Benz sofa is dismissed as frou-frou but the sharp Bora cooktop is described as a necessary basic feature (exaggerating a bit). As I said, I can understand both, including my acquaintance who drives a €100,000 car but doesn’t want to spend money on living. It doesn’t bother me and he apparently feels comfortable with it – good!
You probably mean people who buy things (kitchen, lamp or sofa…) to show off. You don’t need a sofa for that, it already starts outside the house, with clothing, holidays, choice of school, or the musical instrument for the kids… kitchens and sofas are no exception there.

Either I described that incorrectly or it was misunderstood. Due to some twists in life and various living places, I have packed my possessions a few times into 5 moving boxes. If needed, I could do it again tomorrow and detach myself from things. I collect exactly nothing, not even design pieces, branded things, or souvenir junk from abroad.
Over time, we have simply, in my opinion, acquired really beautiful and high-quality handcrafted pieces of furniture this way, that will outlive us and that we will never tire of. I usually didn’t even know the brands, I often have to look them up if one is mentioned.
Because my house was involuntarily rented out as a vacation home for years, a new piece was needed more often. For myself, however, I have always preferred rather sparse furnishing; cluttered windowsills or overfilled drawers drive me crazy.
My secret: I like empty cabinets and drawers and for 30 years in my own house I virtually had nothing stored in the large attic, I wouldn’t even have anything to put up there.

It's not about the price for me, but about the qualitative standard. People buy a sofa and accept a material quality that they wouldn't even look at in a kitchen. While with a kitchen, the joint pattern is scrutinized meticulously, much less attention is paid to the cut of the cushion covers on a sofa. My question is, where does it come from that we look so much more meticulously at a kitchen than at a sofa, cabinet, or other furnishing item. It is clear that the other furniture and furnishings would become more expensive if we had the same standards for them as we do for the kitchen. It is also clear that the kitchen would become much cheaper if we applied our standards for the other furniture as a benchmark. I think that the marketing of the kitchen industry works so well that we have become accustomed to how expensive kitchens are and have been "trained" accordingly. Same topic with bathroom furniture, mobile phones, and cars...

In both, however, better than on some office chair in the home office. But where can I get an office chair with 12-fold electric adjustment, adjustable heating & ventilation, and 8 massage programs?
I also sometimes let myself be guided by quality terms that someone throws at me. Pausing for a moment and considering what just happened makes sense.
I think it can be helpful for builders not to orient themselves around "classifications" and "price groups." Once you’ve done that and briefly paused, you can still consciously reach for the "higher shelf." The only problem is when someone with a tight budget reaches for the higher shelf because they really believe they need that or that an Ikea kitchen is inferior.

Beds are important, i.e. slats and mattress. However, the frame is inexpensive compared to the kitchen. Much less selection, much fewer ways to go wrong. Does the question of whether 160x200 or 200x200 needs to be discussed? Replacement is easy. Slats and mattress must be decided and tried individually. How is a forum supposed to help with that? Every body and every sensation is different. Workflows are less individual.

Removing an old kitchen and installing a new one is not as quick as carrying out one sofa and carrying in another. :)

I would like to know who actually uses their steam cooker so much that the purchase and the extra space were worth it. I now know some kitchens where it is only used as storage for pans.
