Sure, I decide that! I was just portrayed as a total oddball, so I was simply curious. In the current kitchen, I first had a steam oven, after it broke I had an oven with microwave, pyrolysis and steam boost, and now I want both because both have their advantages. Needing is another matter then ;) …

If you look here in the forum, where it is always said that you have to budget 15,000 to 20,000 euros for the kitchen, you do get that impression. But I have often asked myself the question, why such horrendous amounts are spent on kitchens and the demands are so high. In our case, however, it’s because we don’t like cooking and therefore don’t spend much time in the kitchen.

Well, you also have to look at where the price comes from. We also spent "15-20K€". The price is roughly divided into about one third each for furniture, appliances, and countertop. All three items have their own levers to adjust.

Furniture
Is mainly determined by size and fronts. 10m of lacquer costs more than 5m of foil.

Appliances
The number of appliances is increasing (steam oven, second oven) and the price for ventilation (downdraft, Berbel, Gutmann) is currently boosted by the island trend. There is a huge price difference between Amica and Gaggenau. If you buy the "classic" four appliances, mid-range Bosch/Siemens/Neff, you can easily spend €2500 on appliances.

Countertop
Laminated countertops are considered standard, sometimes available for under €100/m. The former market leader natural stone or composite is already three times as expensive, with ceramic and Dekton you are in the upper three-digit range per meter.

I think the price drivers are very easy to identify. For example, if you can do without the extra-wide downdraft cooktop flush-mounted in ceramic, you are quickly under €10,000.
But as so often, forums, building blogs and social media show that these are all must-haves.

Good post.
In our house, the kitchen is used a lot; it is a workspace. Efficiency, however, comes from good planning and good layout, not from the price.
For us, certainly +1/3 goes to aesthetics: Because we can and want to. None of it is necessary to achieve the desired function.
But a certain aesthetic leads to a greater sense of well-being in a room where a lot of time is spent.
And between us: I already cooked a lot and elaborately on two burners as a student, achieving the desired result. From this perspective, you spend a lot of money for more comfortable work, not for better results.

In my opinion, the kitchen and the bathrooms rightly have a higher value, as you usually keep them for decades, unlike non-fixed furniture. Quite simple.

Unfortunately, the times when people kept their furniture and kitchens for 25 years are almost over. I hope it will become like that again. Often, the products do not last that long. The advantage of constant upgrading is that I was able to acquire almost all kitchen appliances (Dunstabzugshaube, KF, Wasserhahn, Ofen) second hand.
