Orchids survive even my brown thumb and bloom regularly. They are also not nibbled on by cats. The elephant tree, on the other hand, was loved by cats.
So far, they also don't go near the orchid, hope it stays that way, they are so beautiful. We also have a "tree" in the living room that was specially chosen for being non-toxic, the leaves are also well nibbled, but well, it still makes the place look a bit more homely.
Once had a tomcat who ate my wild garlic. He always nibbled the very young shoots and I wondered why nothing was growing there. The elephant tree was never safe from the cats, although they were or are all outdoor cats.
(it was important for us to have 2 work surfaces because we actually only cook with two people) nothing stands on the main work surfaces at our place and I love it. I can't stand it when too much is left standing around.
This is skillful minimalism: 2 people can cook well together in a manageable space. Not much is allowed to be left standing around, otherwise the surfaces are no longer usable. Flowers on the windowsill often interfere with inward-opening windows.
