So, the vacation is over - but it wasn’t that relaxing after all. Forget about not wanting any craftsmen in the house. That didn’t quite work out...
But the outdoor area is almost finished. Last Thursday we were also able to pick up the entrance step from the stonemason, and if we’re very lucky, it will be installed this week, and then we will have a truly representative entrance! It’s the same stone as our kitchen countertop (muschelkalk) and with the same edge finish. We’re excited!
First, a few pictures of the now finally really finished terrace:

So now no one can look at our terraces anymore!
As for the stairs, we still have a temporary solution. The stairs will be made of steel and granite and will take about 5-7 more weeks, so for now my husband crafted a staircase out of leftover wood that serves its purpose:
A little proof of the full-blown paranoia of our neighbor:
We had just finished the railing, then this willow mat was clumsily attached to the chain-link fence so that we absolutely never, ever can look into the sacred property. Which we of course do constantly and repeatedly, especially because we spend time in front of the cantilevered garage (under the terrace – so where this mat is now).
To complete the schizophrenia entirely: the neighboring property has two sides facing the street (so it’s a corner lot) – from every centimeter of the street ANYONE who wants can at any time without much difficulty see right into the house.
But that 1.2 m next to our cantilevered garage, that apparently disturb their privacy profoundly.
One just doesn’t have to understand it – we just shook our heads. But when our gardener came by to drop off the last perennials, he nearly flipped out “what is this? This looks super shitty!!!”
Yeah, it’s not pretty, but since we rarely stay at that spot in the garden and we don’t have a direct view of it, we don’t really care for now. A climbing rose will be planted on the wall up to the railing, and the perennials in front will also grow taller, and then it will be even less visible.
The last part of the facade and the corresponding sliding door is finished too!
Now we don’t have to look at the garbage bins when we sit outside.
And what we keep doing:
And it’s already blooming! Our Annabelle has really grown and is flowering like an old pro:
(as you can see, I’m a practiced finger-in-front-of-the-camera photographer)
The Rozeanne (geranium) is also blooming so beautifully!
My so far only rose delights my heart:
And our velvet hydrangea planted just a few weeks ago already has lots of budding flowers. I’m especially looking forward to their blooms:
