Have you had good or bad experiences with mowing edges? I don’t feel like mortar-setting deep curbs again, such a tedious job. Are shallower mowing edges set in sand (possibly supported with a mortar wedge) any good, or don’t they last long? What about (Corten) steel strips as mowing edges? I find the offers, for example on eBay, really cheap (20m for €80, for example). Can that be any good, or is it bad quality?

If you want to grow more, just google vertical gardening.

I like to have mowing edges around my perennial beds. But we don’t make a big fuss about it. We simply laid inexpensive red paving stones in a sand bed, done. You shouldn’t stomp on it repeatedly, but it holds up. Very cheap and easy to remove again if you want to expand or remove the bed!

Literally ran into me this morning:

A tiger slug. By the way, it eats slugs. Nyah!

Simply set granite or concrete pavers 20x20x8cm or slightly smaller in concrete. It took us about 6 hours for 20m with two people, using a spade and wheelbarrow. So it’s doable, but a concrete mixer is almost a must.

The garden is awakening... simply wonderful. Sorry for the flood of pictures, but I just enjoy this activity anew every year
